Regency Dance Workshop (Country Dance and Waltz) - South Pasadena
Walter Nelson, with assistance from his wife Sheila and Kris Davey, will present "Mr. Nelson's System of Simplified Regency Dance" - a system where a dancer of average skill can capture the authentic spirit of the dance of the English Regency and late 18th Century.
The class will teach the basic steps practiced in English Regency Country dancing. When a step requires more advanced skills, a simplified form will be taught as well. In addition, the unique forms of the Regency era Waltz will be taught.
Historical attire is not required, but it is suggested that ladies wear long dresses or skirts that hang more or less like a Regency gown.
This is by no means an "expert" level class. However, this should not be the first time you have danced English Country Dance. A familiarity with basic figures, the Hay and progression will be extremely helpful.
As for the Waltz, a beginner's understanding of the rotary Waltz will help. You may, in fact, find the Regency Waltz to be easier than the Victorian Waltz.
The price is $10 a person, by cash or check. Payable at the door.
