1840s Gentleman

ImageThis fellow is a portrait that has been in my wife's family collection forever. He is unidentified, but generally called "The Spanish Gentleman".

He provides an excellent view of a well dressed man of the 1830s or 40s, in the years just before black became the required color for all of a man's formal wardrobe. His bottle green coat is probably a tail coat, but could be an early frock coat with flared skirts.
